Microinverter-based solar and battery systems provider Enphase Energy has integrated its Enphase Energy System into Octopus Energy’s smart tariffs in the UK, including the "Intelligent Octopus Flux" (IO Flux) tariff. This integration allows customers to manage energy use efficiently, reduce costs, and potentially earn revenue by exporting excess power.Enphase and Octopus Energy established a partnership last year to deploy IQ8 Microinverters and IQ Battery 5P in the UK. Octopus Energy’s Kraken software platform helps optimize distributed energy resources (DERs), enabling customers to access lower energy rates. The IO Flux tariff is designed to enhance savings by scheduling battery charging and discharging based on price fluctuations. Over 40% of IO Flux customers reportedly earn from exporting energy during peak demand periods. Enphase battery users can charge when prices are low and export excess energy when prices are high, helping to balance the grid."Intelligent Octopus Flux optimizes solar panel usage in real time to reduce costs. Partnering with Enphase enhances value for U.K. homeowners by improving savings and grid efficiency," said Nick Chaset, executive vice president at Octopus Energy.Octopus Energy provides services to over 9 million households in the UK and operates in 27 countries. Its Kraken software supports more than 60 million customers globally. Enphase’s 3rd generation Energy System, which includes IQ8 Microinverters and IQ Battery 5P, offers enhanced power output, communication, and monitoring through the Enphase App. Built meet UK grid standards, the system comes with a 25-year microinverter warranty and a 15-year battery warranty.Enphase also participates in Octopus Energy’s GridBoost battery program in Texas. The collaboration focuses on improving customer energy management while supporting a stable and cost-effective power grid.At the TaiyangNews Conference on Inverters and Battery Storage in November 2024, Enphase Energy’s Alexander Krenek provided some perspective on the safety and grid-friendly operation of rooftop and plug-in solar systems with the company’s microinverters (see Discussing Latest Developments of Inverters & Battery Storage).
