今天继续分享上期《经济学人》中的精彩表达，内容不多，但很实用。
原文：
Unfortunately, however, the idea that promoting manufacturing is the way to achieve them is misguided. The reason is that it rests on a series of misconceptions about the nature of the modern economy.
然而，不幸的是，将推动制造业视为实现这一目标的路径是一个误区。原因在于，这一观点建立在对现代经济本质的一系列误解之上。
the idea that...is misguided意思是“…这种观点是错误的/被误导的/站不住脚的”。
idea后面的that...是同位语从句，补充idea内容。
misguided ≈ wrong，但语气更正式。
这个句型可用于批评某种观点，从而引出自己的立场。
例如，关于“幸福感与物质主义”的话题，可以说：
The idea that material wealth guarantees happiness is misguided.
认为物质财富能保证幸福的观点是错误的。
谈到“选择大城市还是小城市”时，可以说：
The idea that moving to big cities is the only way to achieve success is misguided.
认为去大城市是唯一成功途径的观点是错误的。
部分人认为“毕业生应只追求高薪职业”即可实现幸福，但该观点片面。可以写：
The idea that pursuing only high-paying jobs is the way to achieve a fulfilling life is misguided.
认为只追求高薪工作就能获得充实人生的观点是错误的。
在就业竞争和职场“内卷”背景下，“加班越多越有前途”的观点十分片面。可以写：
The idea that working overtime is the way to secure a promising future is misguided.
认为加班越多就越能获得光明前途的观点是错误的。
前几天有条热搜，说年轻人消费观转向理性，不再为面子买单，可以写：
The idea that buying expensive products is the best way to show one’s taste is misguided.
认为购买昂贵商品是展示个人品味最佳方式的观点是错误的。
这句话可用在议论文中，以“the idea that... is misguided”破题，对反面观点进行批判，从而引出自己观点。
回到文中来：The reason is that it rests on a series of misconceptions about the nature of the modern economy.
rest on表示“基于、建立在……之上”，文中it rests on a series of misconceptions about...意思是：这一观点建立在对...的误解之上。
例如：
Many people’s confidence rests on the assumption that housing prices will always rise.
很多人的信心建立在房价永远上涨的假设上。
在“科技创新”话题的写作中，可以说：
Economic progress in many countries now rests on technological innovation.
许多国家的经济进步如今建立在技术创新之上。
在“环保”话题中，我们可以通过rest on提出建议：
The effectiveness of environmental policies rests on public participation.
环保政策的有效性依赖于公众参与。
前几天，市监总局约谈饿了么美团京东，要求外卖平台企业理性竞争。我们可以写个句子：
The competitive strategies of some delivery platforms rest on excessive subsidies, which are not sustainable in the long run.
部分外卖平台的竞争策略依赖过度补贴，而从长远看这并不可持续。
大家可以结合近期热点话题，用这两个表达写句子练习。
