A new study from the team at PARequirements can help parents and educators learn more about children’s health and nutrition. The team examined how much soda children in 42 states consumed and found that some of the numbers are high enough to cause alarm.
While soda is a major part of American culture and a refreshing, sweet treat, it must be viewed as a treat. Too much soda consumption can be a danger to children as it leads to sugar overconsumption and many other health concerns, like dental disease and diabetes. Parents and teachers can spot signs of sugar overconsumption through fatigue, focus issues, and mood swings. Adults can model better nutrition for children by limiting their own soda consumption.
The data the team collected shows that overconsumption of soda is a clear issue. For example, over 22% of high schoolers in West Virginia have more than two sodas a day. When soda contains so much sugar, that’s far too much and clearly exceeds the recommended limit.
