Poland’s 2025 renewable energy auctions saw solar power dominate once again, with PV projects securing nearly all contracted volumes with a combined 1.67 GW capacity, according to the country’s Energy Regulatory Office (URE). Only 2 of the 7 auctions concluded successfully, allocating over 16 TWh of electricity.
For the 2nd consecutive year, its hydroelectric, agricultural biogas, and biomass could not be completed owing to a lack of sufficient bids.
Solar PV dominated both the successfully concluded auctions this year, winning 126 out of 129 bids in this round, with wind energy installations securing the remaining capacity.
In the AZ/7/2025 auction for large-scale solar and onshore wind projects of more than 1 MW capacity, the URE received 98 bids, with solar PV comprising 95. The agency awarded nearly PLN 4.8 billion, out of the PLN 8.9 billion ($2.4 billion) budget for this segment, to the 76 winning bids that are to generate approximately 15.8 TWh of clean energy. It will be generated by over 1.62 GW of solar and 82.7 MW of onshore wind farms.
Winning tariffs for this segment were capped at PLN 389 ($107)/MWh for solar and PLN 324 ($89)/MWh for wind projects.
URE determined PLN 216.90 ($59.6)/MWh and PLN 329.68 ($90.5)/MWh as the lowest and highest winning bids for solar, while they ranged from PLN 100 ($24.5)/MWh to PLN 320 ($88)/MWh for wind energy.
A total of 33 generators participated in the AZ/6/2025 auction for small-scale projects of under 1 MW installed capacity. Together, they submitted a total of 83 bids covering only solar projects.
The agency selected 53 winning bids, representing nearly 47.7 MW, to cover over 0.48 TWh of total capacity for a total value of just under PLN 0.17 billion ($0.047 billion).
Prices for this auction couldn’t exceed PLN 414 ($113.7)/MWh; however, the winning bids were much lower, ranging from PLN 314.77 ($86.4)/MWh to PLN 374.7 ($103)/MWh.
With these, the URE has awarded nearly PLN 77 billion ($21.1 billion) to nearly 307 TWh of renewable energy capacity through auctions between 2016 and 2025.
