SAEL Industries, a solar and waste-to-energy-focused renewable energy company, has announced plans to invest INR 82 billion ($955 million) to establish a 5 GW solar cell and 5 GW module manufacturing plant in India’s Uttar Pradesh.
It will be devoted to TOPCon solar technology. SAEL says that upon completion, this factory will expand the company’s total solar manufacturing capacity to 8.5 GW. According to SAEL’s website, its current solar module assembly lines in Rajasthan and Punjab have a combined annual capacity of 3.3 GW, producing bifacial TOPCon modules.
In November 2024, Italy’s Ecoprogetti installed a 300 MW solar module line for SAEL to produce double-glass TOPCon panels (see India’s SAEL Gets 300 MW TOPCon Solar Panel Production Line).
The planned fab in Greater Noida will be located within the jurisdiction of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently handed over a Letter of Comfort to the company’s subsidiary, SAEL Solar P6 Private Limited. The factory is due to commence construction this year.
“It aligns with the state’s solar policy and national missions like Viksit Bharat @2047 and Atmanirbhar Bharat and enables us to contribute towards strengthening the domestic supply chain, reducing reliance on solar equipment imports,” said SAEL Industries Limited Co-Founder and Director Sukhbir Singh Awla.
SAEL says the factory supports its backward integration strategy aimed at strengthening its growing solar independent power producer (IPP) portfolio across India, which currently exceeds 6.7 GW.
