Montenegro has unveiled plans for the country’s maiden solar energy auction, allocating a quota of 250 MW. It will entertain solar power plants with a minimum capacity of 400 kW or higher.  

It has set a ceiling price of €65.00 ($76.11)/MWh for the auction that will be the 1st for the country’s planned auctions for awarding market premiums or contracts for difference (CfD).

Winners will be determined based on the lowest price offered to secure 12-year power supply contracts, according to the Balkan Green Energy News. 

“This aligns with Montenegro’s international obligations, including commitments under the Law on the Use of Energy from Renewable Sources and, as well as obligations towards the European Union, in line with the Montenegro Reform Agenda 2024–2027,” stated the cabinet.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is supporting the government in preparing a comprehensive 3-year renewable energy auction plan through to 2027, under its Renewable Energy Market Accelerator (REMA).  

“By combining financing with policy dialogue, we're paving the way for private capital to strengthen Montenegro’s energy security and sustainability,” stated the bank.
