India’s RE capacity grows to 223.6 GW at April 2025-end: JMK Research and Analytics counts India to have installed about 10.08 GW of solar and 2.89 GW of wind energy capacity between January and April 2025, while referring to data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). In the month of April alone, 3.32 GW of solar and wind capacity was installed, expanding the country’s total installed renewable energy capacity to 223.6 GW. Earlier, Mercom had pegged Indian solar installations in Q1 2025 at 6.7 GW (see India Installed 6.7 GW New Solar Capacity In Q1 2025).

SJVN issues LOAs to Reliance Power & Sembcorp: A subsidiary of Reliance Power Limited, Reliance NU Energies Private Limited, will build a 350 MW inter-state transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar power project with a 175 MW/700 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). It won the letter of award (LOA) from the central government-owned SJVN Limited, securing the project in a competitive auction with the winning bid of INR 3.33/kWh for 25 years. This is part of a larger 1.2 GW solar + 600 MW/2,400 MWh BESS tender. Reliance Power says its total clean energy pipeline now stands at 2.4 GW solar DC and over 2.5 GWh of BESS, which makes it the ‘largest’ player in the integrated solar + BESS segment in India.

For the same auction, SJVN allocated an LOA to another winner, Singapore-based Sembcorp Industries. The company, through its wholly-owned renewables subsidiary Sembcorp Green Infra Private Limited (SGIPL), has won a 150 MW solar project from SJVN along with a 300 MWh BESS facility. Commercial operations are expected to begin within 24 months of the date of the signing of the power purchase agreement (PPA). With this, Sembcorp says its gross renewables capacity in India expands to 6.3 GW, and globally to 17.7 GW.

435 MW DC project for Waaree: Waaree Renewable Technologies Limited (WAAREE RTL) has secured LOA for an EPC contract for a 435 MW DC/300 MW AC solar project from an unidentified renewable energy generation company. The commercial order is worth around INR 3.46 billion ($40 million). It is to be completed in FY 2025-26. Last month, WAAREE RTL incorporated a new wholly-owned subsidiary, Sunsational Power Private Limited, to set up solar parks and renewable energy systems in India.

Adani’s new energy subsidiary: Adani Group’s Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has incorporated a new wholly-owned subsidiary for the generation of electricity using wind, solar or any other form of renewable energy. Called Adani Hydro Energy Ten Limited (AHE10L), it will generate, develop, transform, distribute, transmit, sell and supply clean energy. It is 100% owned by another AGEL wholly-owned subsidiary, Adani Saur Urja (KA) Limited.

Nextracker strengthens its Indian presence: Leading US-based solar tracker manufacturer Nextracker has expanded its Indian footprint with a new office and research and development (R&D) facility in Hyderabad. This facility incorporates a Center for Solar Excellence (CFSE) that’s supported by a $1 million investment from the company. It will advance local solar technology and training in India. Nextracker counts its existing workforce in India at over 400 employees. The company announced this on the occasion of exceeding 10 GW of solar tracker deployments in India last month. Of this, it added 1.8 GW in the last quarter. Nextracker says 95% of its tracker components used in India are manufactured domestically.
