Elon Musk 🔁Mike P: When you see a RAV4, CX5, or CRV on the road, you think it’s a bigger vehicle than the Model Y because of how they designed the bodies of those vehicles.
But when you own a Model Y and realize the regular trunk is the same size, but there’s also a huge second trunk under the main trunk, two large side pockets beside the main trunk, another trunk under the hood, a rear bench seat with no axle bump under middle seat on the floor… you quickly realize that the Model Y is actually a larger vehicle, it is just designed by people who are really smart. There is zero wasted space, and no need to design around an engine. It gets to be more aerodynamic than other SUVs, and also one of the fastest cars on the road. The others are smaller inside and handle like lawn mowers, the Y is larger and handles more like a sports car. Seriously. Go test drive a RAV 4 and then go try a Y right after. You will laugh.
I’m not really sure why anyone would ever buy any of those cars anymore. The Y starts at 37.5k everywhere in USA, and in some states, even less. Sure, there are lower trims of all the above that might be a few grand cheaper, but across their lifecycle, they all cost more. More money to own a way worse vehicle. Why would you do that? Nervous because it is a large purchase and you’re used to ICE? Get past this. You will be very thankful in the long run.
These are just regular car things. We haven’t even touched on the fact that Tesla’s vehicle technology is not even comparable to any of the others. It is so many leagues ahead that it can’t even be compared. And the car can completely drive itself anywhere you want.
It’s totally bonkers that anyone would spend similar money on any of the vehicles Tesla competes with. This is why it’s the bestselling car on earth.
