GCL Perovskite delivers GW-scale perovskite manufacturing facility: GCL Perovskite, the perovskite R&D and manufacturing division of GCL Group, has officially delivered its GW-scale perovskite production facility. Located in Kunshan City at Jiangsu Province, the facility has an investment of RMB 5 billion ($694.4 million) and is designed for phased construction of a 2 GW perovskite production line. It is also supposed to be the world’s first GW-scale manufacturing base for large-format perovskite modules (2.4 m × 1.2 m). The construction of the plant began in December 2023. GCL Perovskite emphasized that the base is fully localized in terms of technology, equipment, and materials, with 100% independent intellectual property - entirely developed and manufactured in China. Few weeks back, GCL Perovskite had unveiled perovskite AI high-throughput device (see China Solar PV News Snippets)
Chint Power supplies inverters for 50 MW fishery-solar hybrid plant: Solar power system solution provider, Chint Power, announced that a 50 MW fishery-solar hybrid PV power plant, to which it had supplied inverters has been successfully connected to the grid. Located in Suining, Jiangsu Province, the plant occupies 0.5 square kilometers and integrates aquaculture with photovoltaic power generation. PV modules have been installed above fishponds, while aquaculture operations continue below. Chint Power provided 320 kW string inverters featuring an IP66 protection rating, making them suitable for challenging environments such as water surfaces, mudflats, and areas with high temperatures, humidity, and salt spray.
China’s first fixed-foundation offshore PV plant fully commissioned: The 400 MW offshore PV project developed by China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) has been fully connected to the grid and put into operation. Spanning across an area of 512.7 hectares in the Laizhou Bay, Shandong Province, the plant has an AC-side installed capacity of 400 MW. It is recognized as China’s first fixed-foundation offshore PV project, the company said. The installation utilizes heterojunction (HJT) dual-glass modules with an efficiency of 22.86%.
LONGi to build 12 GW BC cell facility: In a release, leading Chinese vertically integrated solar PV company, LONGi, announced a plan to reallocate RMB 1.08 billion ($150 million) from its 2021 convertible bond proceeds. Originally earmarked for the “Wuhu Phase II 15 GW monocrystalline module project,” the funds will now be redirected to the “Tongchuan LONGi 12 GW high-efficiency monocrystalline cell facility,” the release read. The company stated that the original 15 GW module project has not yet utilized the funds due to supply-demand imbalances and sufficient existing capacity. In contrast, the BC cell facility offers greater competitive advantages. The new facility, located in Tongchuan, Shaanxi Province, has a planned investment of RMB 2.877 billion ($399.6 million) and aims to build an annual production line of 12 GW high-efficiency BC cells. Production is scheduled to start in August 2025, with full ramp-up expected in Q1 2026.
TJ Solar and CSG partner on BIPV: Perovskite manufacturer TJ Solar has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Xi’an CSG Energy-saving Glass Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of leading solar glass producer CSG Group. As per the agreement, both companies will integrate their respective technological strengths to jointly develop integrated PV and glass solutions tailored for BIPV (Building-Integrated Photovoltaics) applications. One example includes combining perovskite PV modules with CSG’s coating technologies to enhance both power generation efficiency and thermal insulation performance of building façades, while also reducing overall system costs.
