700 MW solar project in Oman: Polysilicon company United Solar Polysilicon (USP) has entered a strategic partnership with Middle East-focused renewable energy developer OQ Alternative Energy for the joint development of a 700 MW solar PV project in Oman. “This project will contribute significantly to Oman's clean energy landscape and set a benchmark for future initiatives in the region,” said OQ Alternative Energy CEO Najla Al Jamali. Founded by former CEO of Chinese polysilicon major Daqo New Energy Longgen Zhang, USP is building 100,000 tons/annum polysilicon production facility in Oman’s Sohar Port Free Zone. The project is backed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group (see Middle East & Africa Solar PV News Snippets: IFC Backs Oman Polysilicon Plant & More).
2.6 GW solar plant in Saudi Arabia: The China Energy Engineering Group (CEEC) has secured the Initial Commercial Operation Certificate for its 2.6 GW Al Shuaibah PV Power Plant in Saudi Arabia. This is the company’s largest solar PV project in the Middle East. Located about 80 kms south of Jeddah, the Al Shuaibah (ASB) project comprises 2 sub-projects of 600 MW as ASB1, and 2 GW or ASB2. The project is equipped with n-type bifacial solar PV modules deployed on flat single-axis trackers. CEEC says that once the facility is fully operational, its total power generation in the next 35 years will be about 282.2 billion kWh, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 245 million tons, which is equivalent to planting 545 million trees in the desert.
JA Solar & ARTsolar collaborate for South Africa market: JA Solar has delivered the 1st batch of its locally manufactured solar PV modules for the 216 MW Hydra Solar PV Project in South Africa. Constructed by France’s Total and China Power Construction East China Institute, the project will use its DeepBlue 4.0 Pro PV modules. JA Solar produces its modules in South Africa through local manufacturer ARTsolar enabling the latter to upgrade its production capacity. This collaboration helps JA meet the local content requirement mandated by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE).
50 MW solar project approved in Côte d’Ivoire: The government of Côte d’Ivoire has green signaled a new 50 MW solar power plant to be built by Swiss energy company JC Mont-Fort. The government approved the construction of this $60 million facility in Katiola by JC Mont-Fort subsidiary Katiola Solar Power. According to local media reports, the government issued a decree for the concession agreement signed on May 21, 2025. It will support the country’s achievement of meeting 45% share of electricity with renewables by 2030. On completion, the Katiola project will generate 85,934 MWh annually.
100 MW JinkoSolar modules for Azerbaijan project: Chinese solar PV manufacturer JinkoSolar will supply its n-type TOPCon modules to 100 MW Gobustan Solar Project in Azerbaijan under an agreement with HuanTai Energy. JinkoSolar says the Gobustan project is the country’s 1st internationally tendered solar project. On completion, it is expected to generate 180 million kWh annually, contributing to Azerbaijan’s goal of reaching 30% share of renewables by 2030.
Seraphim signs deal with Iraqi company: At the recently concluded Intersolar Europe 2025, Chinese solar module producer Seraphim signed a 250 MW framework agreement with Iraq-based renewable energy company Barzaei Halwan. The multi-year partnership will begin with an initial 50 MW procurement in 2025. Seraphim said that the collaboration will deepen the presence of both the companies in the Middle East, specifically in Iraq that aims to generate 20% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030.
