The booth of Tongwei Solar, a fully vertically integrated Chinese PV manufacturing company, covering high-purity polysilicon and wafers, high-efficiency solar cells, PV modules, and PV power plant operations, hosted its “TNC 2.0 Global Launch Event” at the recently held Intersolar Europe 2025. The company officially launched its upgraded TNC cell-based (TNC 2.0) all-scenario application, PV module portfolio, and product certifications from an independent 3rd party certification agency. Tongwei calls its n-TOPCon cell structure TNC, while its heterojunction (HJT) cell structure is called THC.
Cell-Level Advancements
According to Xing Guoqiang, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Tongwei PV, the advanced TNC 2.0 cell technology represents the successful integration of 4 key innovations: Tongwei Passivation Edge (TPE), Poly Tech (Rear Poly Fingers), Stencil Printing, and 908 Technology (Tongwei’s 0BB technology).
Tongwei’s Passivation Edge (TPE), also known as Half-Cell Edge Passivation technology, involves applying an aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) film along the laser-cut edges of half-cut cells, areas prone to defects that act as recombination centers.
To reduce parasitic absorption from the rear-side polysilicon layer in the cell structure, Tongwei introduced rear poly fingers, where polysilicon is applied in a fingered pattern on the rear. Removing the polysilicon layer from non-contact areas lowers rear-side optical losses and boosts power output. It also enhances bifaciality, which is reportedly reaching up to 88%.
On the metallization front, Tongwei has adopted stencil printing technology, utilizing a steel-based stencil screen without crossover mesh wires, offering a 100% opening ratio compared to traditional screen printing. This enables the formation of fingers with up to 25% finer widths, taking aspect ratio to up to 110%, facilitating reduced shading losses by up to 3.3% and enhanced current collection.
In contrast to SMBB technology, which has soldering pad points along the sections of busbar line, the company’s 908 technology (0BB technology) don’t have any soldering pad points. This feature reduces light blockage area by over 90% caused by pad points, following a low-temperature cell stringing process using silicon adhesive. This eventually, increases active cell area of the module and boost efficiency.
Product Launch
Leveraging its upgraded TNC 2.0 cell technology, Tongwei officially unveiled two new modules at Intersolar Europe 2025: the TWMNH-66HD (G12R-66 format) and TWMNF-66HD (G12-66 format).
The TWMNH-66HD module, incorporating 132 G12R-sized TNC 2.0 half-cut cells, delivers a power output of up to 670 W and an efficiency of up to 24.8%. Meanwhile, the TWMNF-66HD module, built with 132 G12-sized half-cut cells, achieves a maximum power output of 765 W and efficiency of 24.6%.
Due to limited technical specifications available during the launch, insights have been drawn from the datasheets of commercially available TNC 2.0 cell-based modules in the same category. The G12R-based module measures 2,382 × 1,134 × 30 mm, features 2 mm-thick front and rear glass, and weighs 32.5 kg. In contrast, the G12-based variant measures 2,384 × 1,303 × 33 mm with the same glass thickness and weighs 37.3 kg.
These modules, with an enhanced bifaciality of up to 88%, reportedly outperform standard modules by 5% to 10% in energy yield—validated by TÜV Rheinland and CGC.
Executive Insights and Vision
During her keynote, Liu Shuqi, Chairwoman and CEO of Tongwei, emphasized the company’s innovation philosophy:
“Real innovation must serve both people and the planet, enabling a balance between development and sustainability. Each Tongwei module is more than a solar product—it is a living part of the energy system.”
Recognizing Tongwei’s high product standards and sustainable manufacturing practices, TÜV Rheinland awarded the company the IEC TS 62994:2019 certification for lifecycle environmental and health safety, along with the UK MCS certification.
Sustainability Commitments
In alignment with its long-term sustainability strategy, Tongwei also released its 2024 ESG Report and launched the Global Sustainable Partnership Program. In a keynote address, Zhu Zihan, Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), introduced the company’s 3S ESG management system and shared its long-term climate targets.
Further validating its transparency and corporate governance, Tongwei received the AA1000 Assurance Statement from TÜV Rheinland, recognizing its strong disclosure standards and global sustainability leadership.
