RenewSys, an integrated Indian PV module and materials manufacturer, is rapidly expanding its encapsulant production capacity. The company currently operates with an annual capacity of 9 GW for encapsulants and 4 GW for backsheets. It is also scaling up its solar module manufacturing capacity to 5.5 GW by FY 2026–27, alongside the installation of a 2.5 GW high-efficiency cell line.
Encapsulants act as a cushion between the solar cell matrix in a PV module, providing mechanical support and absorbing stress caused by thermal expansion, vibration, and external impacts. They also provide electrical insulation and protect the solar cells from moisture, dust, UV radiation, and mechanical stress, ensuring long-term durability and performance of the PV module.
As part of its expansion strategy, RenewSys has commissioned a new facility in Khopoli, Maharashtra, India. This facility adds 8 new encapsulant manufacturing lines to the company’s existing 7, which currently provide a nameplate capacity of 9 GW. In addition, the company plans to operationalize 4 more lines by the end of 2025. These developments will bring the total number of encapsulant lines to 19, supporting the company’s goal of reaching a cumulative annual encapsulant production capacity of 30 GW.
Avinash Hiranandani, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of RenewSys, commented, “Our focus remains on consolidating our leadership in the solar PV ecosystem with cutting-edge solutions like Transparent Backsheets and Anti-Acid Encapsulants, along with our well established EVA, POE and EPE products.” He added, “We are investing in advanced technologies, optimizing costs, and scaling sustainably to meet both domestic and international demand.”
