Ginlong (Solis) Technologies, a leading Chinese string inverter manufacturer that has recently expanded into hybrid solutions, marked a significant milestone with the shipment of 6 GW worth of inverters in India. At a recent physical event held in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu (South India), the company’s Indian division celebrated the achievement and launched 3 new products. These latest offerings are 2 market segments, namely utility-scale and commercial & industrial (C&I). 

Utility 

Unveiled at the event, the S6-GU350K-EHV series string inverter – designed for utility-scale on-grid installations – comprises 2 models: the 350K-M12 and 350K-M16. 
 

The M12 variant features up to 12 MPPT channels and supports up to 24 PV strings, while the M16 version, equipped with up to 16 MPPT channels, can handle as many as 32 strings. Both models offer a maximum input voltage of 1,500 V DC, an MPPT voltage range between 480 V and 1,500 V, and a startup voltage of 500 V. 

To accommodate the high short-circuit current (Isc) of large-format bifacial modules (such as those using 182 mm and 210 mm wafers), each MPPT channel can handle input currents of up to 40 A for the M12 model and 30 A for the M16. With up to 150% DC/AC oversizing capability, these inverters deliver a nominal 3-phase output power of up to 350 kW and an output current of 252.6 A at 800 V line voltage. 

Housed in transformer-less, IP66-rated enclosures, the inverters measure 1,175 × 945.5 × 446 mm and weigh 134 kg (M12) and 143 kg (M16), respectively. 

On the protection front, both models feature integrated Type II surge protection devices (SPD) on both the DC and AC sides to safeguard against external surges such as lightning. Additional DC-side protections include reverse polarity protection, insulation resistance (IR) monitoring, and string-level monitoring. The company says the automatic IR monitoring system periodically checks for earth leakage in the connected PV strings – typically before inverter wake-up – to ensure safe operation. 

On the AC side, the units are equipped with protections such as short-circuit protection, output overcurrent protection, residual current detection, and anti-islanding protection to safeguard maintenance personnel and system integrity. 

In terms of grid support functionalities, the inverters offer a nighttime static VAR compensation feature, enabled by an integrated Static VAR Generator (SVG). This allows real-time reactive power compensation, ensuring compliance with regional grid requirements even when the PV system is not generating power. 

C&I Scale  

String Inverter 

Solis’ new S6-GC3P150K07-NV-ND series string inverter, rated for a 1,110 V DC system voltage, can accommodate up to 21 PV strings across 7 MPPT channels, each with a maximum input current of up to 54 A. Designed for up to 150% DC/AC oversizing, this model offers a 3-phase output power of up to 150 kW and delivers a nominal output current of up to 216.5 A at a 3-phase 380 V line voltage (50 Hz), according to the company’s datasheet. 

Housed in an IP66-rated enclosure with an integrated fan-cooling system, the unit measures 1,035.5 × 869 × 396 mm and weighs 105 kg. It is engineered to perform reliably in demanding industrial environments, operating within a wide temperature range of -30 °C to +60 °C and a relative humidity of up to 100%. 

In terms of protection, the inverter includes several enhanced safety features. It is also equipped with the optional AFCI 2.0 (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter), which helps mitigate fire risks associated with arc faults in the connected DC PV strings. 

Hybrid Inverter 

Expanding into round-the-clock clean energy applications for the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment, Solis showcased its new S6-EH3P50K-H series model at the event. Designed for integration with rooftop PV systems and lithium-ion battery banks, this inverter supports both on-grid and off-grid (backup) operation. 

Rated for 1,000 V DC, the inverter features up to 4 MPPTs, each with a wide voltage range of 150 V to 850 V and a current capacity of up to 40 A, supporting a total of 8 strings. The model is built to handle DC/AC oversizing of up to 200% and delivers a nominal 3-phase output power of 50 kW and 76 A output current. 

The unit includes 2 integrated battery ports, each capable of connecting to battery banks with an output voltage of up to 800 V and a charge/discharge current of up to 70 A. Combined, this enables up to 140 A total current and 55 kW of storage and discharge power. 

The system switches to backup mode in less than 10 ms following a grid failure or outage. The connected, fully charged battery bank can sustain a continuous 3-phase load of up to 55 kW and 76 A until the battery is discharged. Additionally, a maximum overload capacity of 160% for up to 2 seconds in off-grid mode ensures reliable power delivery during sudden load spikes until the demand stabilizes.
