HIUV, a leading EVA supplier, features in TaiyangNews Market Survey on Backsheets and Encapsulation 2024/25 with 4 products in the Non-EVA segment. The lineup includes new configurations such as white and transparent multilayer films and variants designed specifically for applications in high-efficiency crystalline and thin-film modules. P507WX is a coextruded polyolefin film with either 2 or 3 layers, meaning a polyolefin film is sandwiched between 2 EVA films or just a 2-layer structure consisting of EVA and POE. This product has a density of 0.9 g/m3 and a tensile strength of > 10 MPa. Similar to all other products listed by the company here, P507WX is supplied with a standard thickness of 420 μm and a width of 1,096 mm, with options ranging from 300 to 800 μm for thickness and 300 to 1,500 mm for width. This white EVA has 91% reflectivity on the rear side.
According to HIUV, the product features EB pre-crosslinking technology that suppresses the white overflow and formation of folds. The product is also compatible with the standard lamination process accomplished at 140 to 170°C with a vacuum time of 5 to 7 minutes and a press time of 9 to 11 minutes. These processing conditions are also the same for the 2 other products – P507 and P506M. While it follows the same construction as the above model with the WX suffix, P507 is a transparent product, with ≥ 12 MPa of tensile strength and ≥ 500% elongation. It has a shrinkage of ≤ 4% in the MD direction and ≤ 2% in TD. The main advantage of this product, according to HIUV, is its ability to reduce the cycle time in the lamination process from 25% to 35%. HIUV also claims that the product reduces the chance of bubble formation during the lamination process.
Released in 2017, P507(M) is another product listed by the company. It is a single-layer encapsulation film based on POE chemistry with a density of 0.92 g/m3. It has ≥ 12 MPa tensile strength and ≥500% elongation. At ≤ 2%, the shrinkage in the TD direction is half the ≤ 4% in MD. Like HIUV’s non-EVA product range, P507(M) also features the same adhesion strengths – ≥ 60 N/cm for glass and 50 N/cm for backsheets. It has 91% transmittance for wavelengths between 380 and 1,100 nm. HIUV emphasizes that the product is specially designed to avoid the slipping of busbars during the lamination process. As with the company’s other products, this POE film also supports the same process temperature range of 140 to 170°C, while requiring a longer vacuum process time of 6 to 8 minutes and 10 to 12 minutes of press time.
P507, another product launched in 2017, is a 3-layer coextruded POE film with a transparent finish. It has a density of 0.92 g/cm³ and is transparent with a double-frosted surface finish. It has a tensile strength of ≥ 12 MPa and an elongation of ≥ 500%. The shrinkage in the TD direction is ≤ 2%, half of the ≤ 4% in MD. Its adhesive strength to glass is ≥ 60N/cm and ≥ 50 N/cm for backsheets. It supports a lamination temperature range of 140 to 170°C, with a vacuum time of 5 to 7 minutes and a press time of 9 to 11 minutes. The gel content is ≥ 70%. The product has a light transmittance of ≥ 91% for wavelengths between 380 and 1,100 nm, with a UV cut-off of ≤280 nm, and is compatible with p-PERC, n-TOPCon, and n-JT modules. This film stands out for its ability to save 25% to 35% of laminating time.
P506M is a single-layer POE sheet launched in 2018. The specialty of this product is that it is of the non-crosslinking type and is specially recommended for thin-film modules like CdTe and CIGS, and also for next-generation perovskite PV. This transparent film has a density of 0.9 g/m3 and a low gel content of just 5%. Like the company’s other products, it has a UV cut-off at ≤ 280 nm; however, the transmittance is somewhat low at 85% in the 380 to 1,100 nm wavelength band. As with the company’s entire product range, this product also has a water absorption rate of 0.05% and volume resistivity of 1× 1015 Ω cm.
