Among the major highlights was DAS Solar's unveiling of its latest breakthroughs: TOPCon 5.0 and tandem module technologies, both of which are redefining the upper limits of solar performance.

During the panel discussion, Dr. Song emphasized that according to industry data, TOPCon technology saw its market share soar from 23% in 2023 to 71.1% in 2024, establishing a complete industrial ecosystem from silicon feedstock to final applications. This transition marks the fastest technological iteration in the history of photovoltaics, propelling the industry from P-type to N-type dominance.

Tracing its origins to Germany's Fraunhofer Institute's first presentation at the 28th EU PVSEC in 2013, TOPCon's rise to mainstream adoption within just 11 years stands as a historic achievement. Dr. Song explained that TOPCon's rapid growth is rooted in three key factors: the adoption of advanced SiO2/Poly-Si passivation, offering theoretical efficiency up to 29%; process compatibility with previous-generation PERC lines, accelerating cost reduction and industrial scaling; and robust, locally controlled supply chains for equipment and materials. Together, these advantages make TOPCon the optimal embodiment of photovoltaics' “first principles”.

What Sets DAS Solar's TOPCon 5.0 Apart

Since its founding, DAS Solar has been strategically committed to the TOPCon roadmap, leveraging its core team's technological depth to drive breakthrough developments. Guided by a “One Core, Three Branches” R&D strategy, the company has advanced from TOPCon 1.0 to the latest TOPCon 5.0.

The new generation introduces rear-side PolyFinger structuring using precision lasers to create microscopic light traps, enhancing infrared absorption by 0.3%-0.5%. Nano-contact metalation formed through nanosecond laser induction reduces contact resistance to below 0.5 mΩ·cm². High-aspect-ratio trapezoidal busbars, produced via new pastes and fine steel screen printing, optimize current transport and push fill factors above 85%. Hybrid edge passivation with organic and inorganic layers minimizes recombination losses at the cell edges, boosting half-cell efficiency. In addition, stacked film coupling passivation using atomic layer deposition (ALD) significantly improves UV resistance, reducing UVID120 aging loss to below 0.8%.

With these innovations, DAS Solar has achieved cell conversion efficiencies up to 27% and module power exceeding 670W, setting new benchmarks for comprehensive performance and stability in N-type products.

Exploring the Future of PV Technology

During the panel discussion, Dr. Song shared his vision for the evolution of PV technology. While TOPCon will remain the mainstream over the next 3–5 years, he highlighted the need for new technologies to push beyond the current theoretical limits of silicon.

DAS Solar's strategic framework places TOPCon at its core while actively advancing DBC (Diamond series back-contact), TSiP, and SFOS technologies. Currently, DAS Solar's two-terminal tandem modules based on TOPCon 5.0 and perovskite layers have achieved a remarkable efficiency of 33.5%. In partnership with the China Three Gorges Corporation and Microquanta, the company's four-terminal tandem modules have entered batch production. In parallel, DAS Solar's collaboration with the University of New South Wales on the SFOS platform is targeting conversion efficiencies above 40%.
