$510 million for Atlas: Latin America-focused renewable energy company Atlas Renewable Energy has raised $510 million from international lenders comprising BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank, DNB Bank, Scotiabank Chile, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and the Bank of Nova Scotia. This, it says, is the company’s largest financing in its history for a hybrid 215 MW solar PV and 2 battery energy storage systems (BESS) with 418 MW/4 hours combined capacity project Estepa in Chile’s Antofagasta region. This project is already supported by 2 long-term power purchase agreements (PPA) with mining groups Codelco and Colbun. Atlas targets to commission the project by the end of 2026.
24 MW solar PPA in Brazil: Atlas Renewable Energy has announced a PPA with chlorine and its derivatives supplier, Chlorum Solutions, in Brazil. The deal will see Atlas supplying 24 MW of power from its 579 MW Draco Solar Complex. This Minas Gerais-located complex is already supplying power to telecommunications infrastructure company V.tal, and hospital chain Rede Primavera Saúde. Chlorum has secured clean electricity at a competitive price with this agreement which will contribute to its environmental goals.
Recently, Atlas also signed a PPA with chemicals producer Dow, under which it will supply the latter’s Bahia-located facility with clean energy from the Casablanca Solar Energy Complex. With 358 MW installed capacity, the Casablanca complex is made up of multiple plants in the Minas Gerais region. Dow seeks renewable energy for its manufacturing sites, as energy accounts for 50% of GHG emissions from its manufacturing sites globally.
51 MW Jamaican project changes hands: MPC Capital has closed the sale of the 51 MW Paradise Park PV Solar Power Plant in Jamaica, calling it the country’s largest solar project. Its subsidiary, MPC Caribbean Clean Energy Limited, sold the project to InterEnergy Group for an undisclosed amount. The Paradise project has been in operation since 2019. It was developed by MPC in partnership with France’s Neoen and financed by the French development bank PROPARCO and the Dutch development bank FMO.
221 MW/1.2 GWh solar + BESS project inaugurated in Chile: British power generation company ContourGlobal recently inaugurated the Quallagua Solar Project, with 221 MW solar and 1.2 GWh BESS components, in Chile’s Maria Elena municipality, in the Antofagasta region. The BESS component is capable of delivering 200 MW for 6.2 hours after sunset, ensuring the supply of solar energy at night and dispatching any surplus to the commercial market. This makes the Qullagua Solar Project the ‘largest’ solar plant with a storage system in Latin America, claims the company. It is now gearing up to commission a similar project, Victor Jara, with 231 MW solar PV and 1.3 GWh of batteries in H2 2025. The latter is located in Chile’s Tarapacá region. KKR-backed ContourGlobal acquired both these projects from Grenergy in 2024.
PPA for Peru project: Spain-headquartered renewable energy company Zelestra has secured a long-term PPA with Peruvian power producer and energy trader Celepsa, which will enable the construction of a 238 MW DC solar project in Peru. Under the long-term PPA, Celepsa will receive close to 450 GWh of renewable energy annually.
