Addressing accessibility in the industry will be a main theme at the Feb. 27 Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA) Summit https://www.cdsaonline.org/conferences/cdsa-london-2025/ in London.
Along with the afternoon keynote presentation “In Conversation with Channel 4 Around Their Accessibility Programming & Strategy” a pair of presentations will look at access service requirements for service providers and how the industry is working toward inclusivity for deaf people.
“Access Service Legislation for Streaming Service Providers” will examine the work a CDSA working group has been doing to address the European Union’s directive on requirements for access services for streaming service providers, legislation that kicks in this June. While the specific terms of the legislation will be determined by the broadcast regulators in different territories, for now the industry in a state of confusion over what they need to do to comply. While the industry recognizes the moral obligation to provide these services, the lack of information is making it difficult to plan.
Red Bee’s Diana Sanchez, business development, access services, and Lucia Johnston-Cowan, new business manager, access services, will be joined by Alberto de la Puente Nieto, director of worldwide localization with NBCUniversal, and James Hurrell, premier content operations manager for Sky Showtime.
Following that panel, a trio of experts will take the stage to discuss “The Deaf Way: A Year on We Learn What Has Changed.” Last year the CDSA London event a number of new initiatives, which were being developed by the British Sign Language Broadcasting Trust (BSLBT) to help encourage more deaf people to get behind the camera and for the industry to have more deaf subtitlers, were discussed. The team from BSLBT is back to share how these initiatives have progressed and what else they have planned.
Lindsay Bywood, senior lecturer with University of Westminster, will moderate with the BSLBT’s Stephanie Burke, production executive, and Alexandra Shaw, British Sign Language/English translator.
With the theme “Where AI and Localization Converge,” the Summit brings together the European community to talk about key trends, challenges and the future for the localization industry. Hear from subject matter experts, academics, content creators, creatives and their service provider partners as they delve into a wide array of topics, including the role and future of AI across localization, the view from the creatives, the importance of accessibility and how we can better harness workflow efficiencies to help create greater transparency.
This year’s Summit is co-located with MIP London.
