When examining schools across the United States you’ll find that spending per student can vary a lot per state. The research from PlaygroundEquipment.com illuminates high and low spending across the nation. They sorted data to determine which states and even which districts spend the most and the least money per student. So which states are spending the least? Here’s what the team discovered:

1. Idaho
2. Utah
3. Arizona
4. Georgia
5. Oklahoma

The lowest spending district was the Meridian Joint School District 2 in Idaho. When considering which states spend more or less on education, it’s important to remember that factors like the gross average income of residents and how large the population is. Schools are funded by taxes and states with higher populations and populations that have higher incomes will benefit simply by having more money to contribute to their school systems. Idaho might have low-spending districts, but it also has a lower population density than many other states.
